ASSESSMENT

Assessment is an important process, one that requires curiosity, compassion, and attention to both detail and context. We conduct customized, trauma informed, comprehensive and detailed psychological and psychoeducational assessments for families and organizations for use at school, post-secondary institutions, treatment planning, transition planning, career development etc in order to maximize your or your child’s success.

We can assess for a range of issues including:

  • learning disorders for children, youth, and adults
  • neurodivergence such as ADHD or issues around executive functioning and memory in children, youth, and adults
  • complex behaviours
  • mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression
  • giftedness
  • trauma
  • adaptive functioning
  • CLBC eligibility
  • career development

We do not conduct autism assessments at this time. Scroll for additional information below.

Assessment

We cater to individuals who may need multiple testing sessions in order to collect all of the data. That can look like the individual coming in for three, three hour testing blocks rather than cramming everything into one or two days. We also use breaks and animal assisted therapy with appropriate individuals to help them  regulate so they can complete testing sessions. We endeavour to reduce anxiety, minimize executive function issues due to neurodivergence, and avoid fatigue in order to obtain more accurate information about what individuals are capable of.

Assessments consist of performance based testing of the individual in question; questionnaires completed by the individual, family, and teacher; clinical interviews with the individual and/or their family members; and direct observation during testing. With children being assessed, play based observations are done when there is time and if the child wants to play.

Our commitment is to trying to tell a more complete story of the individuals functioning in order to help individuals, family, and educational institutions. We also strive to ensure that our clients feel understood, and in turn, understand the information contained in the assessment and how we arrived at our conclusions. We do this by writing highly detailed reports explaining all sections of the assessment and providing a presentation of visuals illustrating the results. We try to focus on key recommendations, rather than all of the recommendations, so individuals and family members feel as though they can act on them rather than being overwhelmed. Furthermore, we are pleased to offer further support to our clients by attending a meeting in the community, such as meeting with school based teams, in order to explain the assessment and collaboratively discuss what the next steps could be in supporting our clients and the community.

Costs and timelines vary depending on the type of assessment sought and the individual’s background and presenting symptoms, so please contact us to discuss your needs. Our waitlist usually runs at approximately 6 months but can vary either due to the complexity of preceding assessments or cancellations.
